LANGD Board of Commissioners

Each Commissioner serves a two-year term and is appointed to represent a member city within the Lake Apopka Natural Gas District, providing local oversight and public accountability.

Mr. G. Fred Crabtree - President

Appointed in December 2015 to represent the Winter Garden on the Board, Mr. Crabtree brings decades of leadership experience. He served as General Manager of the Lake Apopka Natural Gas District from 1991 to 2008. He was a partial owner of Kerr Marine Tool Company for many years, combining public utility leadership with private-sector expertise.

Hon. John Rees - Vice President

Appointed to the Board in March 2000, Mayor Rees represents the Winter Garden with decades of dedicated public service. He served 12 years on the Winter Garden City Commission and worked more than 40 years with Silver Springs Citrus. Now in his fourth term as Mayor of Winter Garden, he continues to provide experienced leadership and a strong commitment to the community.

Hon. Timothy Murry - Secretary/Treasurer

Appointed to the Board in January 2021, Mayor Murry represents the Clermont with a strong commitment to community leadership. Currently serving his second term as Mayor of Clermont, he brings steady guidance and a forward-focused vision to both the City and the Board.

Hon. Alexander Smith - Director

Appointed to the Board in May 2022, Mr. Smith represents Apopka with a strong foundation in public service and community leadership. He is currently serving his second term as an Apopka City Commissioner and is also a dedicated minister, bringing both civic experience and a servant’s heart to the Board.

Hon. Diane Velazquez - Director

Serving as a City Commissioner for Apopka since 2014, Commissioner Velazquez brings extensive public service experience to the Board. She was reappointed in November 2024 to represent Apopka, having previously served from 2016 to 2018. A retired law enforcement officer, she also serves on the Board of Directors for the Tri-County League of Cities and the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce, further demonstrating her commitment to regional leadership and community engagement.

Board of Commissioners Meeting Schedule

The Board of Commissioners meets regularly to conduct District business. All meetings are open to the public.

The regular meetings of the Lake Apopka Natural Gas District are generally held on the fourth Monday of each month at 10:00 AM at the District office located at 1320 Winter Garden-Vineland Road, in Winter Garden, Florida.

Any change to the regularly scheduled meeting date is communicated to the member cities of Winter Garden, Apopka, and Clermont and published in the Legal Notices section of The Orlando Sentinel. Meeting notices, agendas, and any other applicable resolutions or notices are posted on the District website and in the District lobby on the Wednesday before each board meeting.
