New to Natural Gas
New to Natural Gas
Natural gas is a type of fuel that formed millions of years ago deep underground.
Scientists believe it was created when plants and tiny sea animals died and were buried under layers of sand, mud, and rock. Over time, more layers built up on top of them. The intense heat and pressure from the Earth slowly changed this buried material into petroleum and natural gas.
Natural gas is a flammable (combustible) fuel made mostly of simple hydrocarbon gases. It is usually found in underground reservoirs, often alongside petroleum.
Today, natural gas is used to heat homes, cook food, generate electricity, and power many industries.
