District Invites Customers to Share Why They Choose Natural Gas

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — Lake Apopka Natural Gas District (LANGD) is joining public natural gas utilities across the country in celebrating Public Natural Gas Week (October 4–10), highlighting the benefits of community-owned natural gas systems and recognizing the customers and communities the District is proud to serve.

Public Natural Gas Week is an annual nationwide observance designed to increase awareness of the value public natural gas utilities provide to their communities. Approximately 1,000 public natural gas systems serve more than 6 million customers nationwide. These not-for-profit utilities are owned by and accountable to the communities they serve.

For LANGD, Public Natural Gas Week is also an opportunity to highlight the District’s commitment to Energy Choice — ensuring residents and businesses have the opportunity to choose the energy sources that best meet their individual needs.

“Energy Choice is about providing options to the people and businesses in the communities we serve,” said Brent Haywood, General Manager and CEO of Lake Apopka Natural Gas District. “We believe customers should have the ability to determine the energy solutions that work best for their homes and businesses. Our responsibility is to make natural gas available as one of those choices and to provide it safely, reliably and affordably.”

Tell Us Why You Choose Natural Gas

As part of this year’s Public Natural Gas Week celebration, the District is inviting customers to share their own stories by answering a simple question: Why do you choose natural gas?

Customers can submit their response in 30 words or less through the District’s website. Throughout October, LANGD will identify lucky customers who will receive a $200 gift card – the winners will be highlighted on the District’s social media channels through November. The celebration is open to both newer customers and those who have relied on natural gas for years.

“Public Natural Gas Week is ultimately about the people we serve,” Haywood added. “Our customers are the reason we are here, and we want to hear directly from them about why natural gas works for their families and businesses. Their experiences help tell the story of why preserving Energy Choice is so important to our communities.”

The customer initiative reflects the District’s broader commitment to the communities it serves and the benefits of a locally operated public natural gas utility, including:

  • Local Control: Decisions are made locally with a focus on the needs and priorities of LANGD customers and communities.
  • Competitive Costs: As a public, not-for-profit utility, LANGD focuses on providing value and dependable service rather than generating profits for shareholders.
  • Economic Development: Access to natural gas provides an additional energy option for businesses considering expansion or relocation and can support broader community economic development efforts.
  • Customer Service: the District’s community-owned structure allows it to maintain close relationships with customers and focus on responsive, personalized service.
  • Energy Choice: Maintaining access to natural gas gives residents and businesses another option when determining the energy sources best suited to their needs.
