Lake Apopka Natural Gas District is proud to announce that applications are now open for our Skilled Trades Scholarship. This scholarship supports graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue trade or technical education and are committed to building hands-on skills that strengthen the communities of West Orange and South Lake Counties. At LANGD, we believe investing in skilled trades is an investment in our future workforce and quality of life.
Scholarship Award Details
- Award Amount: Up to $3,000 per recipient
- Number of Awards: 10 total
One scholarship will be awarded to one graduating senior from each of the following eligible public high schools:
- Apopka High School
- Wekiva High School
- Ocoee High School
- Acceleration Academy West
- West Orange High School
- Olympia High School
- Windermere High School
- East Ridge High School
- South Lake High School
- Lake Minneola High School
Use of Funds: Tuition, books, tools, and other education-related expenses for trade or technical programs.
Disbursement: Funds will be paid directly to the institution or reimbursed with proof of eligible expenses.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a graduating high school senior
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale)
- Plan to enroll in a trade or technical program at a two-year college or accredited trade school
Application Requirements
To apply, students must submit:
- Completed online application form
- Official transcript showing GPA
- Two letters of recommendation (from a teacher, employer, or supervisor)
- A 500-word essay answering: “Why I want to pursue a career in the skilled trades and how I plan to use my education to serve my community.”
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Academic performance
- Strength of recommendations
- Quality and clarity of the essay
- Alignment with skilled trade career goals
- Community involvement and leadership (optional, but considered)
Program Timeline
- Applications Open: January 5, 2026
- Application Deadline: March 31, 2026
- Review & Selection: April 2026
- Recipient Notification: May 1, 2026
- Fund Disbursement: June–August 2026
